Android 4.0 "Ice Cream Sandwich" Release and OS Upgrade

On October 18, 2011, Google announced the new Android OS version 4.0 or "Ice Cream Sandwich." It combines both tablet and phone platforms (for example, Gingerbread is for phone devices whereas Honeycomb is for tablets). Android's main focuses are: nice and simple interface, easy connectivity from Google+ to camera usage and better phone controls such as data usage.

Ice Cream Sandwich will be released when the new Samsung Galaxy Nexus is released sometime in November (exclusively, at least during it's launch, which is the reason why the new Motorola Droid RAZR is released with Gingerbread).

Regarding other devices, it makes sense that Gingerbread devices should be upgraded soon right after specially the Nexus devices (Nexus One and Nexus S). Manufacturers like HTC, Sony Ericson, Motorola and Samsung (although they have not announced when) will follow soon but the wait would be longer than the Nexus devices or any pure Google devices with vanilla Android OS.
